Battalion Chief Leigh T. Hollins (Retired)

Leigh T. Hollins began his career in 1976 at Nottingham Fire Company in Hamilton Square, New Jersey before relocating to Manatee County, Florida in 1977. In 2013, he retired as Battalion Chief from Cedar Hammock (FL) Fire Rescue after serving 36 years in Manatee County.

Chief Hollins is the owner of Starfire Training Systems, Inc. Hollins is the author of numerous fire-related articles, teaches nationally & produced Fire Engineering’s School Bus Extrication DVD as well as many “Training Minute,” “Roll Call Tip,” and “Training Tip” videos.

Hollins has served on FDIC’s Executive Advisory Board since 1996, has been a Fire Engineering magazine Editorial Advisor/Contributing Editor since 1992 and an FDIC H.O.T. Lead Extrication Instructor since 1997.

Chief Hollins maintains Florida certifications as firefighter, EMT, fire officer, fire inspector and fire instructor. Chief Hollins has an Associate of Science degree in Fire Science and an advanced degree in Fire Department Management & Administration.

He is also a founding member of the Sun Coast FOOLS and presently serves as a Trustee.
