This #GivingTuesday, the Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation will celebrate #HeroesChanceDay by inviting the community to join us in supporting those who keep us safe every day. On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, #HeroesChanceDay, you can honor a fallen FDNY firefighter and give a lifeline to a firefighter in need.
On November 22, 2011, FDNY Lt. Joseph “Joey” DiBernardo, died from the injuries that he sustained in the FDNY Black Sunday fire on January 23, 2005. Faced with no other options for escape, six firefighters were forced to make a four-story jump to avoid the flames. A personal safety rope carried by Rescue 3 Firefighter Jeff Cool gave both Joey and Jeff a chance to escape the fire that day. The Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation helps firefighters throughout North America, so that if the unthinkable occurs they have another way out.

The Foundation recognizes all of the corporations and individuals who have generously donated since 2013 to help us keep firefighters safe. Since 2013, the Foundation has helped 42 departments keep their firefighters safe, providing over 800 personal safety systems (PSS). “Your generosity not only helps the community, but it celebrates Joey’s life by continuing his legacy of training to keep firefighters safe,” notes Chief Joe DiBernardo. “You honor Joey, every time you help another firefighter return to their family safely.”
#HeroesChanceDay kicks off this season of generosity by inspiring people to help firefighters on #GivingTuesday and throughout the year. Through your generous gift, you can help provide personal safety systems (PSS) and training to firefighters which gives them a chance to escape when there are no other ways out.
Together we can make sure that firefighters have the training and equipment to safely escape a fire. Giving Our Heroes a Chance.
